Ghost Stories with Josh Hitchens

Ghost Stories with Josh Hitchens, Dramatic Live Reading

A disfigured man comes out of the bedroom closet when the lights go out. The things on the stairs. Something sinister that waits in the deep, dark woods. The consequences of using a Ouija board. In this chilling solo performance, Josh Hitchens relates these tales and more - and they're all true. A horrific and deeply moving piece about confronting the demons that haunt you in the dark.

Tickets Required, purchase them HERE

"Hitchens is an intimate, compelling storyteller, and these tales flow from pathos to laughter to chills under the direction of Ryan Walter...Whether or not you believe in ghost stories isn't important. Every well told story has a grain of truth, and you can find ones here that mean something to you...Being afraid demands a primal human bond that laughter, suspense, excitement, or even sadness never will. Maybe ghost stories aren't about fear at all, but about that underlying vulnerability and the magnetic connections that follow." - Alaina Johns, Broad Street Review.

Autumn Rhythms: a split bill dance performance

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Join us on 10/26 for a dance performance at Aston Mills Arts featuring tap selections by the PAC Tappers and a new duet by collaborators Emie Hughes & Erin Woods Burke.

PAC Tappers:

The PAC Tappers is a small tap performing group based in Swarthmore that grew out of Bara Burden’s Advanced Tap class at the Park Avenue Community Center. In this split bill performance, they will showcase a selection of older & newer works choreographed by Bara Burden and two traditional tap pieces of James “Buster” Brown, Leonard Reed & Willie Bryant.

"partner // ships 1" by Emie Hughes & Erin Woods Burke:

In this site specific dance duet, collaborators Erin Woods Burke & Emie Hughes draw inspiration from Mother is a Verb (Sarah Knott), The Mother Artist (Catherine Ricketts), and Nightbitch (Rachel Yoder), as well as personal experience, to create an ever-evolving landscape of improvisation and unison. Together they create movement structures that strive to give themselves & each other the permission to explore play, creative process, mundane material, rest, mothering, and the joy of dancing alongside each other.

Hello! Welcome to my inaugural workshop:

Retrain Your Brain

Why? Because it’s art. We can do whatever we want.

The goal of these two sessions (Monday, May 12th (Day1) and Monday, May 19th (Day2) is to give yourself permission to create without judgement. To retrain your brain to work intuitively by shushing your ego and just letting go. Bring your favorite materials that inspire you to create. The only expectation is a willingness to experiment, make a mess, allow for mistakes, and engage in a process that may open you to new directions in your approach to your artwork. Expect homework, consider it a seven day challenge! We review your experience with this exercise in the 2nd session.

An itinerary will be emailed to you upon registration. Please feel free to reach out via text or email if you have any questions:

About Me:

In 1995-96ish, I started applying specific mental processes into my art practice. I decided to meditate/prayer for several minutes to ask the universe to help me turn off my ego and let the art and the universe direct the work. The result was that for the first time, my work authentically reflected my feelings without my needing to verbalize them. It was a breakthrough.

I graduated with: a BFA in Textile Design from Moore College of Art & Design in 1992; a Post Baccalaureate degree from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2010; and an MFA in 2013, also from PAFA. I have exhibited predominantly along the East Coast and have work in private collections throughout the United States and internationally.

About me

I am an artist working in Philadelphia and Wellfleet, Massachusetts. After a 30-year career working as a creative executive in marketing and advertising, I began painting full time after discovering oil and cold wax as a medium. I have been very fortunate to study with some exceptional teachers, including Lisa Pressman, Lisa Boardwine, Randall Graham, Nick Wilton and Rebecca Crowell at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, Ireland.

Living and working in Wellfleet, Massachusetts every summer since 2019, my work has turned to the beautiful spirituality of the Cape Cod landscape. Even during the winter months working from my studio at Aston Mills Arts in Philadelphia, I am drawn to capturing this healing and breathtaking place.

My work has been shown at the Provincetown Museum, Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, The A Gallery in Provincetown, Chester County Studio Tour, The Wayne Center for the Arts, Aston Mills Arts and The Historic Yellow Spring Art Show. My work is exhibited at the Frying Pan Gallery in Wellfleet and Orleans, Cape Cod.
